Silica sand, also known as quartz sand, is a type of sand that is composed primarily of the mineral silicon dioxide (SiO₂). This mineral is formed from the weathering of silicate rocks, such as granite and quartzite, and from marine organisms such as diatoms and radiolarians that have silica skeletons.
